One Million Users Effected by "Scareware"
The Federal Trade Commission has finally managed to
halt some of the massive "scareware" schemes, that falsely claim to have scanned users PCs and had detected viruses, spyware, and pornography. According to the FTC, more than one million consumers have been tricked into buying products such as WinFixer, WinAntivirus, DriveCleaner, ErrorSafe, and XP Antivirus. The same court also froze the assets of Innovative Marketing, Inc. and ByteHosting Internet Services, LLC to "preserve the possibility" of providing users with monetary redress, the FTC stated.
